It is believed that change is an essential element of life in the globalized society of Hong Kong today and survival depends very much on people’s ability to cope readily with the challenges of the fast changing environment. Knowing oneself and others, mastering the underlying logic of change, and understanding its consequences on us are the ways by which we can attain success in the future. It is to this end that the programme of Associate of Social Sciences (ASocSci) has been developed to build a gateway to the professional world.

Programme Aims & Features

This programme aims at developing students’ social consciousness, training their ability to evaluate phenomenon objectively and critically as social scientists. The two-year programme features a broad-based learning that allows students to further explore a wide range of subjects commonly found in Social Sciences degree programmes offered by local and overseas universities. These include Psychology, Social Policy and Administration, Sociology, Politics and Public Administration. It features three study themes that give students different focuses and training.

PrPolitics and Public Administration Theme

This theme focuses on the daily administration of Hong Kong SAR Government and its policy formulation. In addition to the fundamental training in various disciplines of Social Sciences, the theme provides a comprehensive coverage on contemporary domestic and international issues.

In order to help student explore, investigate and analyze matters objectively and critically, the course, Social Sciences Research Methods, is offered to students studying in any one of the themes in the programme.

In addition to different themes, students could also enroll in courses offered on a selective basis like business management, cultural studies, arts and humanities, so as to broaden their horizons and exposure.

Many graduates of our Social Sciences theme are now pursuing their degree programmes either at local or overseas universities and some of them have embarked on postgraduate studies or other professional training. We believe that their success is a good indicator of your future development.
