Humanities brings together a number of core disciplines in Humanities, Philosophy and Comparative Literature, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, History, Language Studies, Film Studies, Media & Culture, Sociology and Psychology. This programme is a response to the demand for flexibility and versatility in a world of constant transformation, a world in which human quality is as significant as it has ever been.

The programme takes full advantage of the diversified expertise and abundant resources and facilities from various disciplines, aiming to nurture a whole person who is able to think and act critically, creatively and most of all, independently. Respecting “choice” and “alternative”, the programme allows ample opportunities for individuals to develop their own strength, through specializing in a certain area or moving across boundaries for a broader experience.

Our graduates are highly qualified for acceptance for further study by the Faculty of Arts, HKU and by other Hong Kong and oversea universities. With its interdisciplinary curriculum in demand by the top universities of the world, students can progress successfully to a wide range of academic and professional disciplines directly or indirectly related to the programme.

Humanities equips students with substantial knowledge, and the skills of critical and creative thinking, of problem solving and communication. Graduates are ready for diverse careers in the fields of teaching, the civil service, arts administration, journalism, advertising, the film industry, publishing, art and design, public relations, administration, and the legal profession.
