傳統智慧令我深信讀書不應只為一張證書，而是對個性、真理的追求。應該選擇
合乎自己興趣的學科。但現今的公開考試制度嚴重扭曲了我們的思想，不給學生
時間去反思人生。
中七畢業後，我選擇了「太空學院」作為我人生的中轉站。
我在這裡學會不同的技巧：小組匯報、寫論文、小組討論、大學面試技巧......這一
切不但令我在知識層面上有所增長，亦令我達成入大學的目標，打下穩健的基礎。
但更重要的是，受到學科的內容及講師的影響，我在思想上獲得解放，前所未有
地受到正面的衝擊。提升了個人素質，使我有更獨立的思考能力，更能批判、關
心社會。同時也令我反思自己渴望追求的是甚麼，使我更清楚自己的方向。
當年高考放榜，接過傷亡慘重的成績單，也知道上大學的機會非常渺茫。我回家後打開書櫃門，翻開高考教科書、試題連答案，揭著每一頁，內心不其然的抗拒：難度我要再漫無目的地計這些純數？難度我要把整本Marketing Scheme背完？想到這裡，我已打消重讀的念頭，決定報讀副學士。
坊間云云的院學提供副學士課程，而我只選了香港大學附屬學院的ASocSci。課程除了讓我接觸到不同的社會科學學科的理論，亦為我培養了批判思考和中英語的表達技巧。加上講師的熱心指導和鼓勵，學習再不再死板，而是主動的、相向的。另外，學院亦提供不同機會去讓學生發展所長，做到真正的全人發展。
As a student studying the Associate of Arts (Social Sciences) programmes, I had a fruitful and rewarding year in HKU SPACE Community College. I remember that most of the lecturers were very helpful and patient. Apart from teaching students academic knowledge, they also assisted me in my attempt enter the University of Hong Kong, such as writing reference letters, arranging mock interviews, etc. Besides, the counselling centre in SPACE also provided a lot of useful information and advice on my university application. I am currently studying Social Sciences (Psychology major) in the University of Hong Kong, and I feel grateful for the assistance I received last year.
Life in HKU SPACE Community College was challenging but fruitful; while the workload was surely heavy, it was absolutely rewarding. If you want, you can gain a lot. I made plenty of real friends in SPACE. I benefit most from developing my skills in writing academic papers, which is vitally important for my current study, especially as my major is in Arts.
The year spent in HKU SPACE Community College has definitely left a mark on me.
Honestly, life was not easy there; you will have a lot to learn if you are willing to open yourself up. The College taught me not to take things for granted, you really have to strive hard if you want something badly (e.g. a university place). Anyhow, I can assure you that hard work pays off in the end.
There is one thing I particularly like about HKU SPACE CC: lecturers there are really
like friends to us, and are always ready to offer help. Not only do they teach well, I feel
they are as eager to get us into a university as we ourselves are.

「高考的失敗令我感到沮喪，我知道要繼續向前走，所以我選擇了副學士作為另一個出發點。一開始害怕自己會很難適應新的環境和新的學習模式，但學院的多元化課程、講師的循循善誘和同學之間的互相支持使我很快融入這個新的大家庭。學院經常提供不多類型的講座和工作坊，大大幫助了我去計劃自己未來的道路。最後，我有幸獲得數間大學的取錄，可說是對自己所付出的一個肯定。學習的過程當然艱苦，但只要有毅力和努力，我相信每一個人都能夠達到自己的目標。」
The year studying as a Social Sciences student at HKUSPACE CC was unforgettable. Lecturers are always helpful not only in academic studies but also personal matters, and there are no barriers between teachers and students. Apart from core Social Sciences subjects, the program allows us to choose electives, which has broadened my exposure to various fields. The year was filled with challenges, depression and happiness. It could be one of the best experiences in your life.
