The construction sector is one of the driving forces behind Hong Kong’s economy. The
future looks even brighter for those who are eager to make their creative mark in this vibrant and expanding market. Emerging opportunities such as architectural conservation, sustainable development, urban renewal, building maintenance and most importantly, the blooming construction industry in China will, undoubtedly, open up new prospects for local and non-local architectural career development.
This programme is designed to give students the essential knowledge and skills related to design, building technology and professional practice. As a pre-professional graduate, students will be capable of playing a supporting role in the building industry and other allied professions, and of proceeding to further study in other related fields in the building disciplines.
Practical experience is an important part of professional training. Students are selected to work as summer trainees in local or mainland architecture or other related firms.
The Hong Kong Institute of Clerks of Works (HKICW) has granted full exemption from its Final Part I Examination for our graduates.
The programme will also enable students to further their studies. In past years, a considerable number of graduates were accepted by leading local or overseas architecture or design schools as shown in the list below. Most were admitted directly to Year 2 or Year 3 of degree programmes:
Graduates can also apply to study in the final year of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science) programme jointly offered by HKU SPACE and Curtin University of Technology, Australia.
Some graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science) programme have been admitted to master programmes such as Master of Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture and Master of Construction Project Management at HKU and CUHK.
Architectural Studies graduates will be able to explore opportunities in design work, the building industry and other allied professions. Employers include HKSAR Government, architecture firms, interior design firms and contractors.
You may also be required to attend an interview, take a test, or present previous art or design work to the admissions panel.
