General InformationProgramme StructureStudents' Sharing

Over the years, industrial systems, manufacturing and information processing have evolved
at a dazzling speed, and have permeated every aspect of life and society. The next
evolution will see further sub-division and specialization, such as electrical and electronic engineering, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental technologies and civil and construction engineering. Thus, engineering is an essential sector and profession in any parts of the world.

Programme Aims & Features

This programme aims to provide good foundation concepts in engineering and prepares students to acquire specialized knowledge and skills in the engineering field by offering five streams of studies:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Environmental Technologies
  • Civil and Construction Engineering

Job Placement

In the course of the programme students will have opportunities to undertake job placements at local engineering companies. Through this practical training, students will gain first-hand knowledge of the industry and develop the skills and experience required in the workplace.

Opportunities for Further Studies

High caliber students can further their undergraduate studies in Engineering at local or overseas universities after successfully completing the first-year study of the Higher Diploma programme.

In 2010-11, over 30% of our graduates successfully gained admission to UGC-funded engineering degree programmes at local universities, including The University of Hong Kong (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition, over 10% of our Year One students with excellent academic performance, who were also admitted to The University of Hong Kong.

Career Prospects

Graduates will be able to pursue a career in engineering disciplines, especially in the fields of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Technologies and Civil and Construction Engineering, in such posts as,

  • eToy Designer
  • Industrial Process Assistant Engineer
  • Electric Appliances Assistant Engineer
  • Quality Control Assistant Engineer
  • Assistant System Engineer
  • Graduate Engineer or Assistant Engineer - Civil and Construction

Special Entrance Requirements

In addition to the minimum entrance requirements, applicants are also required to have a pass in HKCEE Mathematics, or gain in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 or above in Mathematics or Science, or equivalent.
