In a thriving knowledge society, the ability to access and manage information and knowledge is the prerequisite for personal and organizational success. Exciting career opportunities exist in both the public and private sectors. Our programme in information management prepares Form 7 graduates for the prospering information industry.
This programme is to equip Form 7 graduates with professional and technical skills for the dynamic and evolving library and information environments of the 21st century. There are two levels of entry: Standard and Advanced.
The programme consists of two themes: Library Management and Information Management. The Library Management theme provides a comprehensive training in library and information management, while some of the information technology related subjects are taught in the Information Management theme.
Numerous site visits to local organizations and companies will be arranged for students to observe and study real-life operations. E-learning and blended learning modes are included in some of the modules. Students can manage their own learning in an independent way.
Electives subjects are offered for students to specialize in areas of interest, e.g. Desktop Publishing, Data Communication, Services to Children and Young Adults, etc.
The Library and Information Science Scholarship, namely Mok Yip Sui Hung Scholarships could be awarded to students who achieve excellent academic results in this programme. A total of five scholarships equivalent to the sum of HK$10,000 each are awarded annually.
Work placements provide the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working in information organizations and provide opportunities to turn classroom theory into practice. The programme team organizes job placements for all students to prepare them for future employment.
Students are eligible for student membership of the Hong Kong Library Association. Graduates can apply for associate membership of the Hong Kong Library Association, if they work in libraries or other information organizations.
In the past three years, some 30% of students who had articulated to the Bachelor Degree of Science in Information Management in The University of Hong Kong graduated from this programme.

Most of our graduates are employed in academic, school, public, or special libraries and in business or corporate settings where the effective management of information is crucial. Our graduates are able to perform well in many library and information management provision functions.
