The Higher Diploma in Library and Information Management programme is an obvious choice so as to equip myself for the challenge of the information age. This Programme provides comprehensive and professional training. In the past two years, I worked in academic and special libraries, gaining fruitful experience and widening my horizons. Before graduation, I was admitted to the second year of the Bachelor of Science in Information Management of the University of Hong Kong.

During the past two years, I have spent wonderful moments with the lecturers and classmates in HDLIM. As Karl Menninger suggested, ‘what the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches.’ The lecturers are always willing to give us support and advice. This programme also offers me a chance to continue my study in the University of Hong Kong.

This Programme, Library and Information Management, is more than I expected. After completing the Programme I developed a zealous interest in this profession. I worked at the West Island School and the Hospital Authority during my internships, which extended my skill in team work with a variety of age groups. Joining the Toastmasters Club and served as a Vice President allows me to expand my social network. Before graduation, I was admitted to the University of Hong Kong.

I feel that the Higher Diploma in Library and Information Management (HDLIM) indeed provided me with an alternative way to further my education and widen my employment opportunities.
After secondary school, I understood the importance of education and I chose the HDLIM programme because of personal interest. Under lecturers’ guidance for 3 years, the programme provided me with academic, technical training and practical experience in the form of placement. Graduated in 2006, I decided to continue with my formal education at HKU. On the other hand, many of my classmates joined the workforce in different areas such as government, education, libraries, publishing, banking, computing and research. At HKU, because of the firm foundation already laid for me through HDLIM, I was able to graduate with high honors for my HKU BSc in Information Management. Currently, I am glad that I am employed in a profession relating to Information Management and Records Management, which is the direct outcome of my continuous education through HKU SPACE and HKU.

After F.5, I decided to enrol in the HDLIS programme. I wanted to pursue my personal interest and have professional training. The comprehensive training not only gave me a thorough understanding of library and information studies but also a grasp of technical skills. Work placement allowed me to put theories into practice. The guidance from the lecturers also played an important role in my study. This solid support enabled me to further my studies at HKU, which set me on my professional path.

I am a recent graduate of the Higher Diploma programme in Library and Information Studies, and on the basis of my academic results in the College, I gained admission to the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Arts. Although my HKALE results were not satisfactory, I did not give up the idea of further studies. My experience as a student helper in my school library led to an interest in library and information studies. After the 3-year higher diploma programme, I now possess professional library and information technology skills. Though many of my classmates have joined the workforce, I have decided to continue with my formal education at HKU.
