    CPA Australia Offering Scholarship Scheme
In Support of the University of London (UoL) International Programmes EMFSS (Economics, Management, Finance, Social Science) Degree Programmes at HKUSPACE

University of London International Programmes, which has a long history of over 150 years, is a world-renowned provider of flexible and distance learning academic and professional programmes accepted globally. These programmes are developed to the same rigorous standards as those offered in the UK campus and it is no easy task passing the examinations through self-study in an international location outside of UK.. That is why HKU SPACE College of Business and Finance has been offering preparatory courses for five of the selected Degree programmes and one Diploma programme for students of University of London International Programmes in Hong Kong since the 1990’s

Providing face-to-face teaching sessions, students enrolled in the courses in Hong Kong can now prepare for the examinations under the guidance and tutorials of lecturers from HKU SPACE lecturers. Towards the latter part of the preparatory courses, lecturers from the University of London would be responsible for final revision parts of the courses.

    Partnered for Sustained Synergies

Students from 180 countries all over the world have enrolled for the University of London International Programmes. Preparatory courses developed for the following EMFSS degree programs listed below are exclusively organized by HKU SPACE in Hong Kong:

    • BSc Economics and Management
    • BSc Management
    • BSc Accounting and Finance
    • BSc Banking and Finance
    • BSc Information Systems and Management
    • Diploma in Economics

The BSc Accounting and Finance is now accredited by CPA Australia, one of the world's largest accounting bodies with a membership of more than 132,000 finance, accounting and business professionals across the globe. Graduates of this program are eligible for exemption for several subjects in the CPA Core Curriculum in Accounting and Business related areas

In addition, CPA Australia recently also expressed their full support by offering a scholarship for graduates of the program with excellent academic performance as well as leadership skills. Aiming to give fresh graduates an early start to their professional career, the scholarship recipients will be sponsored fully in the first year of the CPA Program tuition upon their graduation.

In a ceremony celebrating the partnership, Mr Albert Hung, Senior Programme Director and Acting Head of College of Business and Finance, HKU SPACE, stated, “The London School of Economics and Political Science and CPA Australia have been keen supporters and strategic partners of HKU SPACE for many years. I hereby express my sincere appreciation towards the generosity of CPA Australia to offer the scholarship scheme, and would like to congratulate on the future success of our partnership.”

    Extending Global Reach Through Collaborations

Mr Adam Suess, Regional Manager of Education and International Business Development, CPA Australia, commented further about the scholarship scheme. He revealed that the idea of offering a scholarship is to recognize the excellence and global nature of the University of London International Programmes and the excellence in delivering the highest standards of education in Hong Kong by HKUSPACE. This year also marked the 125 years since the establishment of CPA Australia. The scholarship scheme is therefore also an extension of the work of CPA Australia’s founders. Mr Suess said, “To continue up-keeping the international standing of the Accounting profession, the scholarship will reward and recognize not only academic excellence, but also leadership skills, a quality highly sought after in today’s society.” This would be evident, but not limited to, in the student’s involvement in extra-curricular activities, volunteering and charity events, or leading youth/student organizations.

Ms Rosie Gosling, Director of External Study, The London School of Economics and Political Science, described the partnership as a marriage. She said, “This is a marriage of the accounting profession, the University of Hong Kong and the University of London. Our programmes offer students with the opportunity to study, but more importantly, to attain accredited qualifications so that they can connect with professional bodies like CPA Australia and extend their global reach.”

Ms. Cora Cheung, Senior Relationship Manager – Education Business Development, CPA Australia, supplemented the scholarship announcement with a career talk and further explained the application procedure of the scholarship. This was followed by an information session about the EMFSS programs’ features and details of the preparatory courses by Ms. Gosling, HKU SPACE College Lecturer Mr. Andy Chung and Programme Director Dr .Kwok L. Shum; Ms Gosling stressed to the student audiences that it is the process of learning that makes the courses unique, “Instead of just coping with the examinations, students get ample opportunities to build and develop their leadership skills through collaborative teamwork. This is the proper way to prepare yourselves as real professionals.”
